In the Artist’s Words… Pastor Sid Gauby at Saint Joe Methodist Church asked me to work on the mastodon project. His was the only church to sponsor one, and I was honored to be chosen. Janet Corah, a church member, came up with the concept of Mastodon Joe and the Coat of Many Colors. I designed a fiberglass robe to fit Joe. Then I sprayed the coat with multiple colors and hand-pinstriped it in gold. The outpouring of support during Joe’s progress was overwhelming. The greatest thing to me was bringing the dreams of the whole church to life.
