In the Artist’s Words… We wanted to pay tribute to the time Fort Wayne was mostly under water in the geologic past. We looked at all kinds of sea creatures to pick the ones we wanted to use, and then we spent a lot more time figuring out where to place them on the mastodon. Did you find the mermaid? We used the hump on the don’s back as the perfect location for the turtle. Through it all, the Fort Wayne skyline is visible — a kind of portent of things to come in another age.
