In the Artist’s Words… The mastodon is covered with a variety of bugs from around the world and my own imaginings. Since the sponsor is a Volkswagon dealer, I tried to play off the idea of the most easily identifi ed image — the beetle. My goal was to make this a fun and interesting piece that would make people laugh and think kindly of the VW image. I worked on the project at school so my students could see the entire creative process in action, from original concept to final project.
