In the Artist’s Words… Once we established the design, Susan and I set about making the glass jewels. We cut the glass, ground the edges, and placed double layers of each jewel in the kiln. It took a full firing just for the larger pieces. Then we placed each piece on our don by hand. We did not think our fingertips could be so incredibly bruised as we glued, positioned, and then pressed really hard to make sure the bond was strong. I truly miss greeting him every day but can honestly say I am glad he is done.
