In the Artist’s Words… I realized the first school in our community was made up of 10 English, six French, one African American, and eight Native American children. It was a very diverse community, but it had a dark side. Soldiers used Native Americans as pawns in their land grab. In my classes today, we work in harmony with children of every skin color, making a positive statement about unity. I feel glad that something special is happening. And this time, there is no dark side.
