In the Artist’s Words… This past winter I was recovering from the painful effects of chemotherapy when my good friend Laura asked me to work on Mini Don for the History Center. I wasn’t able to walk very well yet, my right thumb was swollen and painful, and I wasn’t even sure I could hold a paintbrush. But I said “Yes.” This project got my creative juices fl owing again. The Native American history was a great learning and spiritual experience. I wasn’t even sure I could get back up after working on the floor. But the walking, moving, bending, and lifting were great therapy. By the end of the project I was so much better physically, mentally, and emotionally. I feel now that I have contributed something to the community — a piece of my art … my heart — for all to see.
