In the Artist’s Words… Once
the towering mastodon
thundered across this ground.
Now its might
is echoed
in bone.
Then came early people in whose minds terror and wonder
were shadows around the same fire,
whose shadowy presence we conjure
from far figures drawn on stone.
Today, man’s shadow
encroaches, erodes,
obliterates.
Yet, we have evidence
of a time when nature was all,
and man’s reach was small.
