In the Artist’s Words… Lizzadon is a tribute to artist M. C. Escher. Viewers will look at a mastodon but think “lizard, lizard, lizard” as they see a puzzle of reptiles teeming across the don’s surface. Without question, our biggest challenge was to fit the pattern onto the statue’s hide. To be honest, a little fudging occurred. You may notice one or two lizards with an extra leg … or maybe a longer tail than the others. Nonetheless, the design stays consistent — even the pupils of our don’s eyes are lizards!
