In the Artist’s Words… About 400 students at Concordia Lutheran School (grades kindergarten through 8) created Matisse-todon. First, they learned about Henri Matisse in art class. They also learned a song about him in music class. Using the gloves and masks donated by parents, everybody helped with the sanding. The seventh graders painted on the primer, and the eighth graders, who had researched Matisse’s paintings, drew the designs on our mastodon.
