In the Artist’s Words… I welcomed the chance to work on the fiberglass mastodons so much that I took on two of the creatures. Engineer Don was my second project. The sponsor wanted something that represented its history. Since the railroad founded the bank and goes right through the town, I made my mastodon into a train engineer. Engineer Don was created with paints and fabric maché techniques. He has his hat and his overalls on, along with a flannel shirt and work boots. It was a challenge, but I tried very hard to make the two dons look very different while using the same medium and techniques.
